Concession Stand Now Open At Sand Key Park

A new concession stand opened at Sand Key Park on Memorial Day weekend offering food and beverages, along with chair and kayak rentals.

Sand Key Park May Allow Alcohol Sales

The contract with vendor who currently provides concession service at the Sand Key Park expires in a few months. That vendor along with 2 others has submitted proposals for the new contract.

The current vendor is mobile, selling snacks from a roving golf cart, and hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks from a mobile kitchen/trailer. One of the alternative proposals includes a 2,200 square foot elevated pavilion, called "The Sandbar Grill". The pavilion would provide beach concession services, hot meals in addition to the standard beach fare of hot dogs and hamburgers during the day. After 4 pm the pavilion would be used to host "weddings, food functions and other special events and would include providing "controlled and restricted alcoholic beverage services." The consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on the city's public beaches and parks, but Sand Key Park is governed by the County, not the City.

Pinellas County will review all three proposals and the city Commission will discuss the proposed availability of alcohol at Sand Key Park at their next meeting.

Triathalon Cancelled

The Morton Plant Mease triathalon scheduled for this morning has been cancelled due to weather. Participants will be emailed details about rescheduling.

Annual Sport Fest At Sand Key Park April 19th

Triathalon Scheduled For September

The 2008 Sand Key Triathalon will be held on September 21. The event will kick off at Sand Key Park. The event includes a 1/3 mile swim, 11 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run through Clearwater Beach. Visit www.sandkeytriathalon for more information.

Sand Key is Pet Friendly

If you're a dog owner in Sand Key you probably already know it's a great place for fido. It's also a great place to vacation if your a pet owner. The Sheraton in Sand Key is a beachfront hotel that allows pets. One dog is allowed per room, up to 40 lbs. The hotel is adjacent to the Sand Key park, so you are just steps away from pooch paradise. The Paws Playground has two large fenced areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. You can let your dog off the leash and stretch their legs.
